Comfort notes
Advice from real service calls.
One practical article a month for Eastern Idaho homeowners.
Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
The most common causes are a thermostat set to "fan on" instead of "auto", a clogged filter that has made the furnace overheat and shut its burners off, or a dirty flame sensor. Check the first two yourself; if it still blows cold, book a visit.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
If the furnace is fairly young and the repair is a common part, repair it. If it's older, needs a major part such as a heat exchanger, or has needed several repairs in a few years, replacement is usually the better money. We give you both prices in writing so you can decide.
Do heat pumps work in Idaho Falls winters?
Modern cold-climate heat pumps keep heating well below freezing. For the coldest nights, many homes here pair a heat pump with a gas furnace that takes over automatically (a "dual-fuel" system).
